Gold Coast real estate heats up for summer

The Gold Coast real estate scene is set to steal the spotlight this summer as the rest of the country’s property market goes quiet.

Dozens of properties are set to go under the hammer on the Gold Coast next month to take advantage of the sunshine, beach and cheerful atmosphere the holiday season brings.

The country’s largest single in-room auction, The Event by Ray White Surfers Paradise Group, will be held on January 28.

“The Gold Coast is the playground of Australia and we see the biggest influx of visitors here during the January holiday season,” said Andrew Bell, chief executive of Ray White Surfers Paradise Group.

“The Event is designed to provide maximum exposure for the properties participating in the busiest month of the year.

“We also deliberately target the auctions for a national long weekend so the maximum number of people can come to the Gold Coast for The Event without work restrictions.”

Now in its 30th year, The Event will include a selection of properties including homes priced under $600,000 as well as commercial auctions, holiday homes, high-end apartments and general real estate.

Meanwhile, Amir Prestige Group will hold its Grand Summer Auction Event on January 24 – the agency has 26 properties signed up so far.

“It will be the biggest prestige auction event in Queensland,” principal Amir Mian said. “It gives buyers plenty of choice and an opportunity to look at a wide variety of properties from beachfront apartments, to waterfront homes.”

Mr Mian said hosting the event towards the end of January was a strategic choice to attract more buyers.

“It’s the holiday season when everyone is more relaxed, people make new year resolutions and finally have some time to look around and see where they want to go next,” Mr Mian said.

“The auction event creates competition and a sense of urgency where people have to make a decision. That’s why we say curiosity gets buyers in and the auction process does the rest of the work.”

Among the properties going under the hammer is 87 Monaco St, Broadbeach Waters, otherwise known as the The Bachelor house.

87 Monaco St, Broadbeach Waters will go under the hammer on January 24.

Located on the Coast’s well-known Monaco St, the double-storey Beverly Hills-style home used as the backdrop in the reality TV show sold in October, 2021 for $14.5m – it is the highest sale on record in Broadbeach Waters.

The house was created by renowned Gold Coast designer Jared Poole and covers almost 2400sq m with an incredible 115.1m of water frontage in a point position on the river.

Mr Mian said the property was attracting plenty of buyer interest with “15 groups through last week”.

PropTrack data reveals the current auction clearance for the Gold Coast is 44 per cent.
