Auctioneer Andrew Bell took an opening bid of $1.8m, with most of the interest through the campaign from local buyers.
The vendor was a former Adelaide tradie aged in his 30s, who has moved into the building’s two-storey penthouse following his big win.
“I quit my job, because winning something like this means you never have to work again,” he said (the RSL has a policy of not releasing winners’ names).
“I’m not only living the Australian dream of owning my own home — I now own multiple!”
Mr Paradise said the buyers were from Melbourne and secured the property for their holiday home.
“It was a very good campaign with plenty of interest throughout, and another demonstration that the beachfront market is still very strong,” Mr Paradise said.

The full-floor apartment was one of four in the building, which was promoted as the major prize in the RSL Art Union Draw 401 in December 2022.
Spanning 222sq m, the unit offered uninterrupted coastal views and direct beach access, while the floorplan included an open-plan living, dining and family zone, with island bench and butler’s pantry in the sleek kitchen, as well as a second lounge or media room and separate laundry.

The building has a communal saltwater lap pool, protected barbecue area, and tropical gardens, while the unit itself has an “extremely rare oversized ocean-facing deck”, the listing states.
“There’s no limit to how many guests you can host, when you consider there’s an astounding balcony adjoining the living and dining area encapsulating the ocean and beachfront panoramas.”
Worth $12,520,412, the total prize package included the apartment complex, valued at $11.9m, furniture and electrical appliances, 12 months’ of bills paid, a travel voucher, and Christmas tree and presents included in the penthouse.

It was promoted as the RSL Art Union’s “biggest prize home ever”.
The first-floor apartment was sold unfurnished.
The complex was built last year on a 1,099sq m site secured by the RSL for $6m in 2020, property records show.
The owner had not yet decided whether he will keep, sell, or rent the remaining apartments, Mr Paradise said.
