A vintage Gold Coast beach house has sold under the hammer for $4.155m at a hotly contested auction.
A large crowd gathered in the backyard of 3 Fenton Place, Currumbin as the 1960s mid-century modern home changed hands for the first time in almost 40 years, with 13 registered bidders vying for the keys.
Auctioneer Rob Doorey, of Apollo Auctions, opened proceedings at $2m, with a total of 32 bids fielded before the hammer fell with a young Brisbane couple.
“There’s not many of these left — original beach houses where you can wake up in the morning, hear the sound of the ocean and just walk a few steps and get the sand between your toes,” Mr Doorey said.

Marketing agent Brenden Musca, of Professionals Collective, said the buyers were planning to use the property as a holiday home.
He said the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with a double garage had attracted 283 inquiries from across Australia and the US through the campaign for the home on a level 506 sqm block located less than 50m from the sand.
“This stunning beach house offered a rare opportunity to own a piece of Gold Coast history,” Mr Musca said.
“While the home is a stunning example of mid-century architecture, but also a savvy investment opportunity with potential for sub-division, subject to council approval.”

Property records show the low-set home last changed hands for $135,000 in 1986.
Still bearing its original name plate, ‘A Summer’s Place’, the immaculately maintained brick home’s open-plan living and dining area flows to a spacious balcony capturing ocean breezes.
