A Mediterranean-inspired mansion tucked away in the Tweed Coast hinterland has propelled the region forward as northern NSW’s next luxury treechange destination.
Known as Casa Campana, the white-rendered dream home on a 1.31ha rainforest block in Nunderi is owned by Sophie Bell, founder of creative design agency Peppa Hart, and her husband, Michael.It was designed by Peppa Hart in collaboration with Three Birds Renovations, and draws on the Bells’ shared love of European architecture.
With the family now bound for Bali, the property is marketed with a $3.5m price tag by Brent Savage and Ethan Price, of LS properties.
Ms Bell wanted her children to experience the freedom of growing up in the country.
It’s finding favour with cashed-up buyers turning to Tweed from the celebrity playground of Byron Bay.
“These buyers would normally be looking in the Byron hinterland, but you’re going to have to spend $5 million-plus to get a decent place out there, while you are still finding better value here in the Tweed area,” Mr Savage said.
“A lot of people are new to this part of the world and are still trying to get an understanding of the area and what it’s got to offer.
“The area has changed from a sleepy holiday destination to a very established, majority owner-occupier market,” he said.

Mr Savage said the pocket’s appeal hinged on its proximity to beautiful beaches as well as Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, along with its growing local cafe scene.
Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows regional population growth in 2021 was the highest in 40 years as people moved to lifestyle locations during the pandemic and were able to work from home.
Median house prices in the Tweed grew 35 per cent in 12 months, to $950,000.
Closer to the river, luxury pockets of Banora Point and Terranora have also notched up big-ticket sales.

“It is in a really peaceful, private setting, that’s for sure — but also in a really convenient location where you are still only 10 minutes from the beach and from the airport,” Ms Dangerfield said.
“We’re finding Byron is changing a little in terms of who is moving there, and those Byron buyers are selling up and moving up to our neck of the woods.
“There’s still a lot of bang for your buck at Terranora,” he said.
Casa Campana was built over ten months in 2019 and offers complete privacy with plenty of greeen space for the Bells’ two children, Hendrix, 6, and Peppa, 3, to roam.

“We were living in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, and we would come down to northern NSW every weekend,” Ms Bell said.
“I grew up in the country and we wanted our children to have that peace and freedom too.”
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home occupies an elevated position, high in the hills above Cabarita Beach, and was not affected by flooding.
Among its more quirky features are two chic cubby houses — one for the kids with a rooftop slide, and another for the adults, complete with stylish bar and daybed.
The cute hideaways were a lockdown project, built from scratch by Mr Bell, and captured global attention after a video the family posted to social media went viral.
The all-white theme is carried to the glamorous pool and pavilion with wood-fired pizza oven, bar, and daybed. This area was also a popular backdrop for big-brand photoshoots.
Inside, the main bedroom is a true retreat, with its built-in king bed, lavish ensuite, and wide arched glass doors opening onto a balcony.
There are several open-plan living and entertaining spaces, and a large home office studio that was the base for Peppa Hart’s team of six.
