Restaurateur Grant Rodgers was holidaying on the Gold Coast seven years ago when he decided to buy a property on sought-after Sovereign Islands.
The owner of Steampunk Surfers Paradise, and his partner Nigel Mclaughlin, are now selling the house that started their Gold Coast dream.
The couple, who come from Tasmania, had no intention of moving to the Glitter Strip until they ended up with the keys to 24 The Peninsula, Paradise Point.
“We were on holidays and weren’t actively looking for properties,” Mr Rodgers said.
“We went for a drive past that property and called into the sales offices to talk to the agent. We made an offer and within 24 hours it was accepted.”
The home is street appeal.
Mr Rodgers said they had planned to renovate the property and knew it could be transformed into something special.
“That property essentially hadn’t had any work done to it since it was built but the bones were there,” he said.
“Structurally it’s a great house and the layout was perfect so our plan was to gut the inside and refurbish it.”
The end result, completed within the past 12 months, is a showstopper four-bedroom house overlooking the waterfront with multiple entertaining areas as well as a pool and spa.

“It’s one of those properties where you can look at it and know it’s still going to be relevant and in style in five years time,” Mr Rodgers said.

“The house is right at the end of the bay,” he said.
“Because it’s got that true north aspect and water views you’re sheltered as well.
“That’s the biggest plus of that property.”
And being in the hospitality industry, Mr Rodgers said it was a true entertainer’s dream.
“It’s a great family home and it could also be accessible for an elderly couple as well,” he said.
“All the bedrooms are ensuited and it’s been great when we have had guests staying from Tassie as we had multiple living areas and were not living on top of each other.”
The couple have enjoyed living at Sovereign Islands and have already bought another property on the exclusive enclave.
“We absolutely love it here,” he said.
