Humble tennis court sells for massive $2.9m

A tennis court at 2613 Virginia Drive, Hope Island sold in a $2.9m deal.
A tennis court described as a “fantastic waterfront block” has sold in a huge $2.9m deal on the Gold Coast.
That’s three and a half times more than Brisbane’s median home price of $818,000.
The 1000sq m property at 2613 Virginia Drive, Hope Island was marketed by Cassie Jiang of Professionals – Vertullo Real Estate.
She said it was the first time she had sold a tennis court.

“With limited blocks available, now is the time to move and build your dream home and start living the Hope Island Resort lifestyle.”
The property included 20m of water frontage and was in a gated community with 24-hour security.

Property records reveal the vendors bought two neighbouring 1000sq m blocks on Virginia Drive in 2010, paying $1m for each.
They built a house on No. 2614 and a tennis court on No. 2613.
Fourteen years later and they decided to offload the tennis court.
“Buyers are willing to pay a premium for land in Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island Resort,” Ms Jiang said.
“It’s a prestigious area and there are not many vacant blocks left.
“Buyers see blocks on offer and they will purchase them and land bank.”

Ms Jiang said the buyers of the tennis court were from the Gold Coast and planned to build a house on the property.
“It’s the best street in the resort,” she said.
Ms Jiang said Hope Island Resort provided its residents with “the very best in Queensland living” with shops, restaurants and golf courses.
Property records reveal the neighbouring property at 2612 Virginia Drive, which included a five-bedroom house, sold for $2.8m in September, 2020.
