A SOUTHERN plantation-style house inspired by the romance of box office hit film, The Notebook, has sold for $2.275 million.
The striking new build at 1 Ilkinia Ave, Broadbeach Waters, captured the heart of a Melbourne buyer who secured the property after it passed in at auction.
The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home was built by newlyweds and seasoned house-flippers, Sebastian and Jennifer Gallagher, and sold by Conner Malan, of Ray White Burleigh Group.
Mrs Gallagher said they aimed the create a fun and family-friendly home that would stand out among other luxury homes in the popular residential estate of Florida Gardens.
The two-level property on a 556sq m block blends modern coastal style with design traits from the plantation houses of the southern states of America, with the result reminiscent of the house built by Ryan Gosling’s character in the 2004 romantic drama, The Notebook.

“I absolutely love that plantation style so we built one ourselves,” Mrs Gallagher said.
“I just felt Hamptons style had been done.
“I said to Sebastian, let’s buck the trend and do something totally different for the Gold
Coast.”
Dark window shutters and roof contrasts with the home’s exterior white cladding, while landscaped hedges and a row of pencil pines add classic appeal.
Inside, archways connect the kitchen and living room to the spacious lounge and dining zone on the ground floor, which features dark timber floors and high ceilings.
Living areas flow through to an al fresco entertaining deck and pool, while upstairs are four of the bedrooms including the large master bedroom with elegant dressing room and ensuite.
The fifth bedroom or study plus powder room is back downstairs, while other features include a butler’s pantry plus built-in bar and wine fridge.

Mr Malan said the home was in a “market of its own”, and sold to a buyer who was not registered as a bidder when the property went to auction.
“I haven’t seen anything like it on the Gold Coast,” Mr Malan said.
“As much as I personally like Hamptons style, I think there’s an even greater level of
sophistication with this plantation style that Sebastian and Jennifer have done.
“I can see this trend catching on, for sure,” he said.

Property records show the vendors paid $1.19m for the block in May 2021 and replaced the existing four-bedroom, single-level home.
“We could’ve just renovated but we knew the block was perfect for this style house,
which called for a complete knockdown,” Mrs Gallagher said.
“It was a lot of hard work, especially sourcing materials and fixtures from America in a pandemic, but we feel the market wants new, not renovated at the moment.”
It was the couple’s fourth project on the Gold Coast, with another one already planned.
