Trilogy Land Plots 11-Storey Healthcare Hub

Plans for a new health and medical research hub in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct have been filed with Economic Development Queensland.

Trilogy Land is plotting an 11-storey TVS-designed mixed-use tower in the Southport Priority Development Area that uses modernist design principles to incorporate curved forms to soften the tower.

The sloping overflow carpark on a 2554sq m site at 16 Nexus Way would make way for the mixed-use medical research and innovation hub called North Star.

According to planning documents, the development was aimed at advancing medical treatment of health conditions and the “development of new and emerging technologies” in healthcare.

The transparent facade is modulated and sculptured to showcase the feature helical stair of the tower, according to architects TVS.

“This stair has been incorporated as the focal point of the design both visually and conceptually to encourage the use of stairs as the primary method of vertical circulation throughout the building and provides the advantage of naturally ventilating the building,” the design report stated.

“The design response elegantly references the familiar design motifs through materiality, form and texture whilst employing modern design principles and technology to situate itself within the precinct.

▲ The sloping block has been addressed with planter boxes and built-in seating, providing a green collaborative space, according to planners.

“The permeability of the building facade allows people to move in, out and around the building from multiple points into public and semi-public areas located within the public domain.

“The building promotes a strong connection to the future ‘Collaborative Green’ to the north-eastern facade, which is envisaged to offer smaller, more defined outdoor spaces for professionals to gather in small groups or individuals to work outdoors.

“[It’s] setting the standard for future surrounding developments.”

The design has maximised floor-plate efficiencies to create flexible open plans that could be split to smaller tenancies.

The plans also include three levels of podium carparking, which have been sleeved with commercial tenancies along the main facades.

The upper level of the podium includes a cafe, bar and function centre, which would spill out on to an outdoor terrace.

The six levels above the podium are dedicated to healthcare services and the building will have a gross floor area of 9559 square metres.
