Southport councillor Brooke Patterson lists family home

Cr Brooke Patterson is selling her Southport townhouse
SOUTHPORT councillor Brooke Patterson has dovetailed a controversial proposal for Australia’s tallest tower in the CBD with a property move of her own.
Cr Patterson has listed her family’s three-bedroom townhouse for sale — while Gold Coast City Council assesses plans for the 100-storey twin-tower Park Lane project.
“Taking advantage of height and density in the CBD makes sense so that character areas of the suburb can be better protected,” Cr Patterson said.
“I am also seeing more development applications for this low-rise, higher-density style come across my desk, offering a new approach to family life — low maintenance, close to everything.
“What is happening in Southport now reminds me of the change to New Farm in Brisbane about 20 years ago,” she said.

The Southport townhouse has a $1.25m price tag and is marketed by Lana Faulkner, of Ray White Benowa.
Cr Patterson and her husband, Roger, have lived in the property with their two children since 2017, downsizing from a sprawling canal-front home.
“We have a busy family life and after being slaves to a larger house and garden and boat, we chose to move to our current home for stress-free living,” she said.
“People said, ‘aren’t you meant to downsize after having kids?’, but we find this works great for our family.

“With our busy lives and school-age children we just didn’t want to spend our precious free time taking care of a large house and garden any longer,” she said.
The townhouse occupies a 253sq m allotment, with a two-storey layout comprising the open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, leading via sliding doors to an al fresco entertaining terrace.
Each of the three bedrooms is painted a different, vibrant colour, while there’s also a separate media room and two bathrooms on the upper level.
Last year, the Pattersons snapped up a fixer-upper for $970,000, also in the sought-after The Southport School precinct, and are preparing to relocate to the new address with renovations expected to be completed by Christmas.

Cr Patterson said she stumbled upon the location of their new four-bedroom home while campaigning in the area, sparking a desire to take on their first renovation project.
The $400m megatower project is backed by a consortium including Melbourne-based funds manager Payton Group, architect BKK, town planners Urbis, and engineering consultancy Van der Meer.
It would comprise two linked towers, of 60 and 100 storeys each, with the larger tower to include 197 residential units and the smaller tower devoted to office space.
