88 Clear Island Dr, Broadbeach Waters
A showstopping Broadbeach Waters home designed by House Rules architect Joe Snell has sold for more than $4m, netting its owners a million dollar-plus profit in just two years.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom property at 88 Clear Island Rd underwent a stunning transformation by Havendeen Projects in 2020, with Studio Snell engaged to design a sleek coastal retreat.
It was snapped up for $2.945m by an expat buyer after just three days on the market in September 2020.
Marketing agent Kurt Reid, of Reid Real Estate, confirmed the waterfront property was under offer again but would not disclose the sale price.
However, it is understood from industry sources to have changed hands for more than $4.3m.
The house was renovated in 2020
The home on a 771sq m block has a minimalist aesthetic, with all-white exteriors and huge black-framed windows capturing water and cityscape views.
Elemental materials including stone and wood are used through the open-plan layout, while soaring 7m voids bathe spacious living spaces in natural light.
There are also two bedrooms and an office with separate street access on this level.
A custom-made steel staircase leads upstairs, where designer tiles, timber accents and bespoke lighting carry the modern coastal style through the remaining three bedrooms and two bathrooms plus separate lounge and bar.

Al fresco entertaining is also amply catered for by a waterfront terrace with artificial lawn surrounded by decking, pool and entertaining pavilion with barbecue kitchen and bar.
Havendeen’s Rob and Tui McKinnon purchased the block for $1.35m in October 2019 and opted to renovate the large existing original home rather than start new.

Mr McKinnon said the design referenced their own needs as a busy working family with two young boys.
“We were going to live in it for a few years, but we probably panicked a bit when Covid popped up and decided to sell,” he said.
“We did take into consideration being able to work from home with a decent office prior to knowing that would be how the world works now since the pandemic.
“I think this sale shows that the home is holding up as a quality product and keeping on trend. It looks as good now as it did when we handed it over two years ago,” he said.

They are currently in the throes of a new Mermaid Waters project.
Mr Snell was a former judge on Seven Network’s House Rules and designed a new build for Guy and Jules Sebastian in Sydney before embarking on this first Gold Coast project in 2019.
