Gold Coast suburb where the locals want to live

Monique White has listed her luxury renovated villa in Southport
MONIQUE White spent family holidays at Main Beach, but when she moved from Brisbane to the Gold Coast she opted instead to purchase a property in Southport.
The centrally located suburbs of Southport and Labrador have attracted the highest number of inquiries from Queensland residents seeking to relocate on the Gold Coast, latest data from Muval shows.
For Ms White, 35, buying a townhouse in Southport meant she could enjoy all the drawcards of the coastal lifestyle without the sky-high buy-in of living in a beachfront suburb.
Southport is one of the city’s most affordable unit markets, with a median price of $515,000, while Main Beach is the priciest, at $1.14m, PropTrack data shows.

“A lot of people moved from Main Beach over to the complex because they didn’t want to be cooped up in an apartment, they wanted the lifestyle with free reign to have double the size of living space,” she said.
“You are basically in the centre of everything here, just a few minutes to the beach as well as the private schools.”
The small business owner and mum-of-one has listed the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 9/100 Cotlew St East via an expressions of interest campaign with Lana Faulkner, of Ray White Surfers Paradise.
She purchased the townhouse, located in the gated estate of Adelphi Springs, for $631,000 in June 2021 and completed a full renovation.
“I was born and bred in Brisbane but we’ve always had holiday homes on the Gold Coast,” Ms White said.
“I purchased the property during Covid just before prices went up and at that time I had been looking to book a trip to Greece, so my inspiration for the renovation was to create a space where you can open to door and it feels just like paradise,” she said.

Holiday at home vibes
Ms White named the villa ‘House on Apollo’.
The home’s spacious two-storey layout comprises an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space downstairs, with high-end finishes throughout including solid marble herringbone splashback and gold sinks in the kitchen.
There’s a stone waterfall bar, while glass sliding doors open onto a covered patio and Mediterranean-style al fresco area.
“The property would suit someone who is downsizing and looking for a low-maintenance, turn-key opportunity, and someone who is stylish and knows what is on trend,” she said.

Residents of the complex have use of three pools, a spa and a gym.
Ms White plans to undertake another renovation project on the Gold Coast.
Ms Faulkner said she was experiencing strong demand from local buyers for renovated properties in the area.
“Southport is one of the up-and-coming suburbs,” Ms Faulkner said.
