Agent sells three of late Olympic swimmer’s deceased estates in a week

An agent has sold three deceased estates of a late Australian Olympic swimmer in just a week.

David McCarthy of Harcourts Coastal achieved a solid win for all three properties at Braewood Drive in Currumbin Valley, Queensland, at auction on Wednesday April 26, owned by freestyler Allan Wood, who passed away at age 79 in October last year.

The property at 54 Braewood Drive, which Allan resided at for 10 years, sold under the hammer for $850,000, and is “uninhabitable” due to extensive water damage.

David tells Nine that 36 Braewood Drive, which Allan moved to after living at 54, sold under the hammer for $1.1 million. The property at 30 Braewood Drive, which is currently being rented out, sold after its auction for an undisclosed price.

The one-bedroom, one-bathroom estate is situated on a flat parcel of land behind dense rainforest.

As stated on the listing, the property suffered significant water damage 18 months ago from a flood and is “almost beyond repair”. Due to an “insurance issue”, the home has been “uninhabitable since that time”.

A pool that is shrouded by palm trees remains, and could be restored to its former glory subject to council approval.

Interior shots of the home show exposed wooden scaffolding and electrical cords in the main living area.

Agent David says in the listing that the property suits someone who is willing to “roll up their sleeves and have a go in restoring this beautiful and large tropical valley oasis”.

The second deceased estate is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom property on just over 12 acres of land.

Like the property at 54 Braewood Drive, it’s situated behind dense tropical rainforest on a flat level of land.

The actual home takes on a 1980’s style, and there’s also a barn and loft that could be transformed in a teenager’s retreat or rental property.

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is situated on just over 12 acres of land.

As stated on the listing, the property was built around 18 years ago and is currently being rented out by a friend of Allan until July 2024.

Harcourts Coastal estimate the rental income to be over $700-per-week.

Allan represented Australia at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where he won bronze in the 400 metre and 1500 metre events.

The Sydney-born swimmer retired after the 1964 games, remained in the sport as a coach for a while, before relocating to Currumbin Valley.
