Coast architect to the stars Paul Uhlmann sells luxury family home under the hammer

Architect to the stars Paul Uhlmann has sold his family home
TOP Gold Coast architect Paul Uhlmann, who designed The Block co-host Shelley Craft’s spectacular beach house, has sold his own family home under the hammer for $4.4 million.
Auctioneer Rob Forde said bidding for the five-bedroom Mudgeeraba acreage property was “competitive”, with a local buyer successful.
An opening bid of $3.5m kicked off proceedings at Wednesday’s auction, with offers then fielded from three registered bidders.
Mr Forde described the Kagoola Dr home as “stunning” and said the result brought clearance rates for the Harcourts Coastal group to about 70 per cent for the week.
The Mudgeeraba property was renovated over six years
The split-level hillside home on a 30,800sq m lot was a “passion project” for Mr Uhlmann and his wife Rebecca, who spent six years renovating the unique property shared with their three children.
Mr Uhlmann has won a string of awards for his work, which has included designing ’Pacifico House’, the Belongil Beach dream home of TV personality Craft.
Craft and her husband, Christian Sergiacom, engaged Paul Uhlmann Architects to bring to life the stunning mid-century inspired property on the site on a former whaling station.
“It’s not your average beach house,” Craft said, unveiling the home in 2021.
“We wanted to create a family home that was cool to look at, comfortable to live in and creative in its use of products, all while being sympathetic to the natural environment.”

Pacifico House makes striking use of natural textures such as timber and stone to blend with its natural surrounds — a theme that can also be seen at the Uhlmann’s personal property in Mudgeeraba.
The Uhlmanns purchased the block in 2016, enticed by the rare combination of coastal as well as mountain views, and set about creating a homely place rather than a “show home,” the architect said.
“We basically pulled it apart and rebuilt it,” Mr Uhlmann said.
“The shell was good, so everything around it was essentially pulled out and rebuilt over six years, and just really made more relevant to how we live now compared to how we lived 40 years ago.”

Spaces were opened up to suit modern family living
The end result was a contemporary-rural house that works in harmony with its surroundings,
with features including a pool, media room, study, parent’s retreat and five-car garage.
From the outside, timber and stone cladding soften the house while inside, high ceilings create plenty of space and allow natural light to filter in.
Modern fixtures including pendant lights, louvres and a neutral colour palette create a warm and inviting space.
Marketing agent Katrina Walsh said the home offered a great lifestyle opportunity.
“This home is a celebration of the effortless design excellence Paul is known for, with carefully crafted details that elevate the home beyond measure,” she said.
