Calile Hotel inspires epic Mermaid Waters home

El Nido at 24 Montego Court, Mermaid Waters is going to auction on August 16.
The Gold Coast meets the Mediterranean in an epic two-level waterfront home inspired by overseas travel and influenced by the architecture of Brisbane’s esteemed Calile Hotel.
Boasting a central courtyard, arched swimming pool and subtle curves, ‘El Nido’ at 24 Montego Court, Mermaid Waters was completed less than a year ago on behalf of Gold Coast business owners Shaneel and Reuben Bergola.

El Nido is attracting plenty of attention.
The kitchen.
The architect-designed residence was to be their forever home, incorporating their favourite architectural and design influences from around the world.
“I took a Canva presentation to the architect,” Mrs Bergola said.
“We wanted to create a place that felt like you were holidaying at home but was functional as well and was influenced by our favourite places that we have been to around the world.”
Two years in the design and build phase, the home features four bedrooms, an office, media room, and an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area set around a central courtyard with mature olive tree.

It’s light interior and calming design is complemented by global influences including
Japanese mosaic tiles, and Taj Mahal quartzite, along with curves, arches, and
indoor/outdoor areas reminiscent of the Mediterranean.
All blend together to create a warm and welcoming home that is contemporary yet timeless in its design.
“Any space that you are in, you can see and feel the other spaces,” Mr Bergola said.
“There’s this sense of connectivity.”

On the lower level, the kitchen, dining, and lounge area lead directly to an al fresco entertaining terrace overlooking the firepit, arched swimming pool, waterway beyond and a private boat pontoon.
Meanwhile, upstairs is devoted to relaxation.
In addition to two bedrooms and a central retreat, a vast master suite leads to its own private balcony overlooking the water and features an expansive dressing room along with an ensuite boasting a circular bath.

The house was meticulously designed.
“When you’re on the balcony off the upstairs bedroom you can see the sun rising, and on the
other side you can watch the sun set over the mountains,” Mrs Bergola said.
“I also love sitting on the bench seat that overlooks the courtyard, kitchen and living area
through to the entertaining area.
“It’s so hard to pick one part of the home over the another as a favourite place as it’s a
house that creates a different feel at different times of the day.”

The arched pool.
Built as a family home, the property is also ideal for entertaining.
“We’ve had business events at the house including pizza nights, hibachi grills and wine tastings, and it’s a fabulous place to entertain and cook,” Mr Bergola said.
Complementing the entertainer’s lifestyle is the property’s low-maintenance garden, with its emphasis on edible plants.
“We’ve planted a lot of things that you can use in cooking, including the olive tree, lemon trees, and herbs like rosemary and thyme,” Mrs Bergola said.

Arches are a common theme.
While the Bergolas meticulously designed the home and spared no expense on its finish, exciting new business ventures mean their luxury residence is now set to go to auction.
“We hope it goes to a family who enjoy the space as much as we have,” Mr Bergola said.
“It’s a place for a family that enjoys spending time together.
“You do wake up feeling like you’re on holiday and it’s a place that’s very hard to leave.”
El Nido at Mermaid Waters is listed with Jamie Harrison of Kollosche, Broadbeach and is slated to go under the hammer on August 16.
