AFL assistant coach Jed Adcock and wife Amber Ward reveal heartache

Brisbane Lions assistant coach Jed Adcock and his wife Amber Ward are ambassadors for Mater Hospital House for Life initiative
Brisbane Lions assistant coach Jed Adcock and his partner Amber Ward reached a major milestone when they brought home their premature baby boy, Hugo, after 89 heart-wrenching days in hospital.
But the following year their second son, Freddie, was born five weeks early, and again the couple’s tiny baby stayed at the Mater Mothers’ neonatal critical care unit (NCCU).
The AFL couple became ambassadors for the Mater Foundation, committed to giving back to the incredible medical team that saved their boys’ lives.
“When both the boys were born early and unexpectedly, we were in total shock. The medical team at Mater looked after all of us and we are forever grateful that we were able to bring our babies home,” Amber said.

The Mater Foundation is auctioning a newly built luxury home at Helensvale on October 15 to raise funds for caring for the tiniest and most vulnerable babies.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 21 Forest Ct in The Surrounds estate is marketed by Jo Dryden, of Coronis, and is open for inspection on Saturday ahead of the auction on October 15.
It was the ninth property built by Plantation Homes for the House of Life initiative.
Hugo was born 13 weeks premature in May 2020, weighing just 940g.

He had difficulty breathing and endured several complications over the course of his stay, including three blood transfusions and a small grade two bleed on his brain.
Hugo’s brother, Freddie, was born in December 2021 and required care to monitor his breathing.
Mater Foundation executive director Andrew Thomas described the charity house build as, “a labour of love”.

A grand entry
“All of the suppliers and tradespeople donated their time, skills and resources to support the 2,000 seriously ill and premature babies cared for by the NCCU each year,” Mr Thomas said.
“We are also very grateful to Plantation Homes for their unique and ongoing support of this project over the years.”
Plantation Homes general manager Alex Raleigh said construction spanned nine months, with more than 100 trades and suppliers involved.
“Auction Day is electric. It is the day where everyone involved with the build comes together to celebrate the superb group effort,” Mr Raleigh said.

“It is also the day where the successful bidding family not only takes ownership of a stunning family home in a great area, but also know that 100 per cent of the proceeds go to Mater Foundation.”
More than $5m has been raised for The Mater Foundation from the past eight House for Life charity homes built between 2008 and 2019, with the 2019 charity home selling for $986,000.
